Forward Filming,

Tomorrow

The Problem

The motion picture industry has created a expansive threat to the environment. Filming produces a lot of waste and energy in the many departments that make up a film. While some large budget films have started to take up “green filming”. Many indie films that consist of limited filming time and a smaller budget have not taken into consideration the environmental costs of producing a film. The problem in the motion picture industry today is the lack of sustainability and environmental consideration in the filming process.

We journey into a high school ECO WEEK from home, to get insight on the action we all can take for the planet while social distancing with the hope they’ll stay, even after our global health crisis subsides.

Under the current threats to our government’s equality and peace, Forward Films has expanded it’s message to highlight a forward message. Our next project will be a series of documentaries, showing the activism being done in Connecticut. Starting with my hometown, southbury CT.

INSPIRATION

The problem Forward Films is addressing is the waste that comes with smaller films. As the founder, I am interested in this because it connects many of my passions. I feel very strongly about reducing humanities carbon footprint. I am an active member of several school and town organizations where I have gotten the chance to make a positive impact on sustainability in my local community. I also enjoy film making a lot. I run the film club at my school and organize several film festivals at my school and in my town. I have noticed that producing films comes with a lot of waste. I was inspired to highlight this problem and bring change. My three part initiative comes from three skills I have developed through my passions. I have experience in organizing start up businesses because of my dad. The business initiative of my project takes into the account the organization needed in a company to spark change. I also was inspired by my mechanical background in robotics to create a structural initiative to conserve energy on sets. Furthermore, while running several activist social platforms in high school, I was also inspired to spread the ideals of eco based filming through mixed media.
